Automotive Parts Interpreter 

Automotive Parts Interpreters sell automotive replacement parts and accessories in retail and wholesale outlets.

Entry into your apprenticeship

Year 11 or 12 is preferred
Successful completion of MTA's Pre-Selection Test

Your apprenticeship consists of:

  • On the job training: training received at a Host Employer.
  • Off the job training: this is undertaken with a Registered Training Organisation
  • Contract Duration: normally been 3 years

  • Motor vehicle wreckers
  • Dependant on the age and reliability of motor vehicles in use

Tasks that may be completed by a Automotive Parts Interpreter

  • Communicate with customers to determine their needs
  • Identify vehicle make and model as well as automotive equipment
  • Recommends parts to customers
  • Consults replacement parts catalogues or computer databases to identify and source parts
  • Receives orders for parts
  • Orders parts from suppliers and warehouse
  • Collects, packs, dispatches or delivers ordered parts
  • Keeps stock and sales records
  • Prepares invoices and other finance arrangements for the sale of stock
  • Calculates sales tax, discounts and prices
  • Processes cash or credit transactions
  • Sets up merchandise displays
  • Assists with stocktaking
  • Assists customers in repairing or replacing parts

Personal Requirements

  • Good communication and sales skills
  • Organised and methodical approach to work
  • Problem solving skills
  • Ability to work quickly under pressure
  • An interest in motor vehicle parts and a willingness to learn computer operations
  • Posessing a current drivers licence is an advantage
