THE Motor Trade Association of South Australia today welcomed the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) announcement that it intends to oppose the proposed acquisition of Mobil Oil Australia's retail assets by Caltex Australia Limited.
"The announcement by the ACCC Chairman Graeme Samuel will mean that truly independent service stations will remain viable in an industry already dominated by ‘big oil’ companies,” MTA Executive Director John Chapman said.
“Competition is best served by many competitors in the market place."
“This decision ensures Independents will be able to continue operating in a competitive market place and passing on reasonable fuel prices to SA motorists," Mr Chapman said.
